Yanks Cruise as Sabathia Shows Dominance

By Anthony Machcinski

An expensive off-season is beginning to payoff for the Bronx Bombers.

C.C. Sabathia had another consecutive dominant start Tuesday, allowing three runners through seven innings pitched against the Orioles. This outing followed a previous outing where he pitched a complete game shut out.

Sabathia, now 4-3, isn't the only Yankee who has caught fire. Alex Rodriguez launched a first inning bomb into left-center off of Orioles pitcher Nick Bergensen. Rodriguez has five home runs this season and that home run marks the fourth straight game with a home run.

A beneficiary of Rodriguez's return is first baseman Mark Teixiera, who has absolutely exploded after recording his worst April of his career. It appears every night that his home runs have gone longer and father every time he hits one. Since Rodriguez's return, Teixiera has doubled his RBI total from 15 to 30 and his home runs from 5 to 10.

Brian Bruney returned from the Disabled List to pitch a scoreless 8th inning while journeyman Brett Tomko pitched the 9th.

The trouble started for Baltimore in the seventh, when Bergensen (1-2) loaded the bases. Chris Ray was called in to to relieve Bergensen, and allowed a 2-run double to Derek Jeter. Fransisco Cervelli would score on a throwing error by O's centerfielder Adam Jones. Ray would allow 3 more runs with a Johnny Damon hit and a Teixiera home run.

Notes

- Centerfielder Johnny Damon continues to fight for a contract at the end of the season, producing again last night behind Derek Jeter in the 2-hole. He had two runs and an RBI in the game.

- Starter Chein-Ming Wang is on a start to start basis in the minor leagues as he tries to return from the Disabled List. His return probably hinges on the success of Phil Hughes in the Majors.

- Edwar Ramirez was sent to AAA Scranton/ Wilkes-Berra to make room for Brian Bruney. Ramirez was sent down due to Jose Veras's inability to be sent down to the minors without clearing waivers.
