Joba Hurt as Yanks Pound O's

By Anthony Machcinski

Joba Chamberlain probably threw more pitches in a simulated inning before the game than while pitching on the mound tonight at Yankee Stadium. With two outs in the first, the right-hander was hit with a line drive from Orioles centerfielder Adam Jones.

After the game, Chamberlain was given X-rays which showed a sprained knee but no other damage.

As for the Yankees, they proceeded to continue their hot streaks. With Johnny Damon out of the lineup, Robinson Cano batted in the two slot and had himself a fine game. He went 3-4 with 2 runs and three runs batted in.

The Yankees bullpen was dominant again. With four pitchers combining for 8 and a third innings, allowing four runs. Alfredo Aceves picked up his third win of the year, coming in for four innings after Chamberlain was hit. Mariano Rivera would pick up his ninth save of the season.

Hideki Matsui would attempt to come out of his slump by hitting his fifth home run of the season of starter Adam Eaton.

Eaton got roughed up again, allowing seven runs in 4 and two thirds innings.

- Centerfielder Johnny Damon stayed out of the line up tonight with a balky back. Robinson Cano would take his spot in the lineup in the 2 hole while Melky Cabrera took his spot in the field.

- The Yankees have the big 3 pitchers this weekend against the Phillies as A.J. Burnett faces Brett Myers on Friday, Andy Pettitte against J.A. Happ, and the marquis matchup of the weekend features C.C. Sabathia against Cole Hamels.

- Stadium Home Runs: An article from ESPN stated that the Yankees will not do anything to combat the winds until after the old stadium is torn down and the summer breeze comes into effect.
