Yankees Get Their 5th Starter

By: Jason Cohen

In a move which will certainly allow Yankee fans to take a deep breath, Andy Pettitte is finally back in the Bronx for the opening of the new stadium. No one is really surprised, simply relieved that the two sides were able to work out a pact that will see Pettitte make $5.5 Million with the opportunity to push the deal to $12 Million should Pettitte reach agreed upon incentives. One thing is for certain, Pettitte is a man of his word having repeatedly stated its the Yankees or retirement.

If the Yankees were unable to retain Pettitte, the back end of their rotation would be filled by two unproven players most likely Joba Chamberlain and Philip Hughes slotting into the 4 and 5 hole respectively. With the reinsertion of Pettitte, the Yankees will now boast a fearsome rotation of Sabathia, Burnett, Wang, Chamberlain, and Pettitte a solid combination of youth and experience.

This deal should bring to an end the Yankees off-season of spending. With all the pieces in place, the only thing left is to hit the field and watch as the puzzle comes together.
